How we hire

Dropbox seeks out high-impact individuals who spark innovation, elevate strategy, and foster creativity.

Our hiring philosophy: the Dropbox way

We’re on a mission to design a more enlightened way of working. That starts with building an impactful workforce. Millions of people around the world choose Dropbox, and they deserve our very best.

Hiring principles

Work with the best

We’re always on the lookout for high-impact candidates with unique perspectives that can elevate our products, experiences, and culture.

Fairness first

Our process is designed to ensure that candidates are evaluated on measurable and objective criteria.

Assess with purpose

We evaluate candidates the same way we assess employees—to ensure that they align with our company’s values, core responsibilities, and career frameworks.

Invest in success

We hire for long-term impact, focusing on skills, growth potential, and alignment with our mission.

Treat candidates like customers

The interview process reflects our company values. That’s why we treat candidates with the same level of respect as our customers.

Clear and consistent communication

Nobody likes being ghosted. We aim to update you on your candidacy within ten business days at every stage of the interview process. If you reach the final stage, we’ll share feedback to help you grow.

At Dropbox, we use AI to streamline our hiring process while keeping candidate evaluation and decisions human-led. We’re committed to transparency about when and how we use these tools at every step.

Our approach to AI in hiring

Our approach to AI in hiring

01

Apply online

Send us your application through our Careers site. At this stage, AI helps organize submissions and improve efficiency by identifying relevant skills and experience in relation to the requirements of the role. From there, our hiring team reviews profiles directly and makes all decisions about who moves forward.

02

Initial screen

If your background aligns with the role, we’ll reach out to learn more about your experience, interests, and goals. With your consent, we may use AI transcription tools to take notes and keep the conversation flowing.

03

Assessment or technical screen

You may be asked to complete a skills-based exercise so we can better understand how you think and solve problems. If the assessment involves using AI tools, we’ll let you know in advance, and you can choose not to participate. All results are reviewed by our team.

04

Virtual interviews

As a Virtual First company, all interviews take place over video. You’ll meet with team members to discuss your strengths, working style, and approach to collaboration. We may use AI note-taking and transcription tools—and if we do, we’ll provide notice and get your consent where required by law. You can always opt out.

05

Final review and decision

Our hiring team reviews interview feedback together and makes all hiring decisions based on human judgment and a comprehensive assessment of each candidate's skills, experience, and potential. If it’s a match, we’ll extend an offer and walk you through the details. If not, we’ll share feedback so you can leave the experience with useful next steps.

Interview FAQs

Dropbox is embracing AI to enhance our hiring experience, drawing upon Dropbox's AI Principles. We calibrate our hiring process carefully to ensure AI supports, but never replaces human judgment- we expect the same level of integrity from you.

We encourage you to use AI to polish your application or prepare for interviews, and ask that you’re transparent about how it’s used. However, the use of AI during interviews or assessments is not permitted unless explicitly stated otherwise. Using AI in ways that misrepresent your work or experience may negatively impact your candidacy. We value authenticity and want to understand what you’ll bring to the role. On our end, we use tools that help flag when AI may have been used. These signals are always reviewed by our team and are never the sole basis for decisions.

We encourage using AI to:
  • Proofread your application or assessment
  • Prepare for interviews
  • Practice discussing your experience
  • Learn about Dropbox
  • Showcase AI-assisted projects (with disclosure of the tools used)

We discourage using AI to:
  • Generate scripted responses that don’t reflect your own thinking or experience
  • Misrepresent qualifications, skills, or past work
  • Complete assessments meant to evaluate your own abilities
  • Record interviews or collect sensitive Dropbox information
  • Share confidential details, trade secrets, or materials that violate data privacy laws or intellectual property obligations

Dropbox may use AI to:
  • Support recruiters in early-stage candidate review
  • Initiate a skills-based exercise (e.g., writing assignments or job simulation with an AI tool)
  • Tailor interview questions to the role
  • Record, transcribe, or summarize notes during virtual interviews

Opting out won’t negatively impact your application. We’re committed to a fair and consistent hiring process, so we’ll provide an alternative way to complete each step and evaluate you using the same criteria as other candidates.

Your recruiter will update you within two to five business days. In some cases, a decision may not be made within that timeframe, but your recruiter will still reach out with an update.

Yes. You can ask your recruiter to set up a time to discuss input received after your virtual interview. While we’re not able to provide feedback to early-stage candidates, we appreciate you considering Dropbox.
